Seven times mountain happiness

The Schattberg X-press operates especially for the mountaineers at 07.30, to bring you to the starting point. From the top station there is a trail to the summit of the easiest peak the Stemmerkogel (2,123 metres). As you descend from this peak there are many boulders where you will need to be sure-footed. The second peak is the Hochkogel (2,249 m) with fantastic panoramic views to the ‚Großglockner‘, ‚Watzmann‘ and the ‚Hochkönig‘. After a short descent comes the first serious milestone. The narrow steep path leading to the Hochsaalbachkogel (2,212 m) requires sure-footedness and no fear of heights. The next summit, the Bärensteigkogel (2,225 m), is situated in one of the more remote areas in the valley. The idyllic solitude is ideal for an extended break to regain your strength before continuing on the second part of the hike. From the Bärensteigkogel (2,225 m), the trail continues over a rocky terrain leading to the Manlitzkogel (2,247 m).  After a steep descent the trail continues onto more gentle pastures before going over a rocky ridge to the Mittagskogel (2,092 m). Mountaineers will need to give everything they have on the ascent to the Geißstein (2,363 m). The path to the peak is exposed to the elements. The spectacular views over the alps to the „Wilden Kaiser“ and „Hohen Tauern“ mountain ranges will be the reward. Even when the energy levels are depleting, full concentration is needed for the descent of the Birgel to the end of the valley. There are no manned huts enroute, so please be sure to take enough provisions (food and water) with you. Suitable equipment and detailed planning are also prerequisites for this tour as well as knowing where you can make a  premature descent if need be (bad weather). For preparation purposes you can take a 3D flight over the tour on the interactive hiking map on On each summit of the tour you can register at the checkpoints with your chip-card, the SnapShot camera will then send the summit photo to the interactive summit book in real-time. Those who would like to share their spectacular experience with friends can use the new App summitLynx. The application for iPhone and Androids transforms the mountain ranges of Salzburgerland into a digital format. With the SummitLynx App hikers have the tracking tool in their own hands: With a Smartphone you can keep a record all the mountains peaks you have conquered. The App registers all the summits reached. This information is used for online evaluation and entry into the virtual ‚Hall of Fame‘. Mountaineers also get an online analysis, finishing time and place in the online rankings. The traditional walking pins are complemented by the App. Whereas in the past hikers collected their points by stamping their cards at the various huts, lakes etc., this can now be done online. By logging in you can collect virtual points. When a certain number of points are reached, they will automatically change into pins. Another App highlight: With GPS registration you are able to make an entry into the summit book and share your success directly with friends, family and others in the community.
