Hiking along the alpine flower path
The medicinal herbs and alpine flower path on Reiterkogel
At 1,544 metres above sea level on the Reiterkogel you will find the medicinal and alpine flower path. It is embedded beautifully in the gentle landscapes around the Reiteralm and only a short hike away from the Reiterkogel cable car upper terminus.
The path demonstrates the medical, homeopathic as well as folk medical effect of more than 200 regional medicinal plants. It was built in 2008 by the mountain railways in cooperation with herbal expert Rupert Lengauer and the certified hiking guide Hans Adelsberger, who is also known as the “good soul” of the medicinal herbs garden.
Legendary lightning arrester and love magic
Curious stories and traditional stories complement the scientific explanations. You will learn that the houseleek was considered to be a very special plant with our ancestors: The folk belief said that it had magic potency. The plant was used as protection against lightening. Charlemagne even ordered that every farmer had this plant on his roof.
The general chicory was considered to be a magic plant, if you believe the old legend: Most myths originate from the late Middle Ages and say that the chicory had incredible magical power, particularly in relation to love.
